Imitation is the greatest form of flattery

The Fitness Industry is currently flooded with personal trainers, coaches, studios, boxes and “globo” gyms all looking to make a name for themselves, through the installation of flashy equipment, cutting prices and fusing different methods of training together to create something new as a means to try and separate themselves from the crowd.

Unfortunately the truth of the matter is that with all these personal trainers, coaches and gym managers there is actually very few with the skill, originality or genuine care in their clientele to believe in the mantras they try to promote.

This week I look to scrape away at the fitness trolls that see what is working for one facility, copy and take the same idea and present it in a very similar fashion without understanding the reason why they are posting what they posting or the exercise methodology behind it.

Social media is a funny tool; it allows us an avenue to display our thoughts, feelings, ideas and achievements to an almost limitless amount of people and though there is a huge amount of information out there and no one is really recreating the wheel, the idea of plagiarism also exists.

They say imitation is the greatest form of flattery and though in most cases I would agree that to for some to recreate something you have put forward is a huge salute to something that you have done well. On the other hand the consideration could be made that a plagiarist simply lacks the skill and knowledge to implement something of their own and so takes what it is that you believe in and have exhibited.

I guess this weeks post is more an outlet for me to voice a concern I have of late whereby activities I have put forward on social media have been literally “copied and pasted to promote other facilities and trainers” that I fear lack the understanding and knowledge to even understand the reasoning’s as to why I have posted what I have posted.

Facilities need to display a genuine care for their athletes, their own passion for fitness and their unique personality. By copying the posts, videos and photos of one facility only exhibits a shallowness and falseness that is clear to those who notice that the personality and ideals that they are presenting don’t actually exist.

I guess what I am trying to say is that a health and fitness journey is created and experienced by you and you alone, you have to find what works for you and be aware that under the glitter, the glamour, the noise, the free smoothies, free giveaways and constant spitting out of motivational quotes that a lot of facilities are more concerned with your dollar signs than your health and well being.

Talk to coaches, personal trainers and managers and see if your best interests will be met, do they have the experience to help you on your journey or will you be forgotten following the smile and the wave.
